World shares showed mixed performance on Friday as oil prices climbed to their highest levels since June 2022, according to multiple reports. Brent crude oil prices settled at $116.72 per barrel on Friday, marking a significant increase amid concerns about geopolitical tensions and supply constraints.

The S&P 500 experienced a decline of 1.2% on Thursday, its worst day since July, while the Nasdaq composite dropped 2.6%, driven largely by weakness in technology stocks. Despite this, the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up slightly by less than 0.1%, indicating some resilience in other sectors, KDH News reported.

Asian shares mostly rebounded on Friday from earlier losses related to AI sector concerns, as reported by The Gazette and ClickOnDetroit. However, rising oil prices continued to exert pressure on markets, with the S&P 500 falling an additional 0.5% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declining 1.2% on Friday, according to ClickOnDetroit.

The price of Brent crude oil rose sharply from under $97 at the start of October to settle at $116.72 per barrel on Friday, its highest level since June 2022. This surge in oil prices contributed to broad market declines, with nearly three-quarters of stocks in the S&P 500 falling, ClickOnDetroit noted.

Some AI-related companies showed gains on Friday, which helped mitigate the overall market slide to some extent, according to ClickOnDetroit. However, concerns about rising interest rates and geopolitical issues continue to influence investor sentiment and market volatility.

Market watchers are closely monitoring the impact of sustained high oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions on global economic stability and stock market performance.
