One killed and three injured in two shootings at Winston-Salem State University
Two separate shootings during homecoming weekend at Winston-Salem State University left one dead and three injured, authorities said.
Two shootings occurred on the campus of Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina during homecoming weekend, resulting in one death and three injuries, NBC News and ABC News reported.
Authorities arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with one of the shootings that killed a 19-year-old victim. He faces charges including murder, assault with intent to kill, and felony firearm possession on an educational campus, according to NBC News.
The victim was found with a gunshot wound and did not survive despite emergency efforts. One injured person was treated at a hospital and later released, NBC News said.
Police have stated that the shooting linked to the arrest is an isolated incident and not connected to the other shooting on campus, ABC News reported. The university canceled all remaining homecoming weekend activities following the violence.
The university's chancellor expressed concern over the violence and emphasized the commitment to campus safety. Additional law enforcement remains on campus, and counseling services are available for those affected, ABC News said.
