A downtown Palo Alto building owner is suing the city for more than $300,000, claiming damage to the basement and sidewalk after the city removed a tree in front of the property, Palo Alto Online reported.

The building, located at 518-526 Bryant Street near City Hall, was leased to the city's Planning and Development Services Department until January 2026, when the city ended the lease.

The owner of the building alleges the city failed to remediate water and sidewalk damage after removing a tree in front of the property.

The owner is seeking compensation for damages to the basement and sidewalk at the property.

The lawsuit was filed with the Santa Clara County court.
