Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones, stars of the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney's "Normal People," have signed an open letter supporting the author after her books were pulled from UK shelves, Variety reported.

The letter, published in the New Statesman and also signed by other notable figures, calls the withdrawal an affront to free expression and urges changes to UK anti-terror legislation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rooney's UK and Ireland publisher, Faber, stated that current legislation prevents it from passing on her UK earnings, leading to the decision to no longer supply her books in any format in the UK, Variety reported.

The UK government has outlawed Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, and Rooney has expressed her intention to continue supporting the group with proceeds from her novels and TV fees, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

The signatories of the letter reject censorship and call for the government to amend the legislation that led to the withdrawal of Rooney's works, emphasizing the importance of free speech and expression in the UK.
