Rays rally in 12th inning to beat Brewers 4-3, force World Series Game 5 at Tropicana Field
Tampa Bay Rays avoid elimination with a 12th-inning comeback win over Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4, setting up Game 5 at home.
The Tampa Bay Rays kept their World Series hopes alive with a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in 12 innings on Tuesday night, WUSF reported. The Rays rallied in the bottom of the 12th inning with key hits from Jonny DeLuca and pinch-hitter Ben Williamson to overcome a late Brewers lead.
Milwaukee had taken the lead in the top of the 12th on a home run by Cooper Pratt, who had four hits in the game, according to WUSF. However, the Rays responded after a throwing error by Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz and timely singles by Liam Hicks and DeLuca tied the game.
With the bases loaded, Williamson hit a bases-loaded RBI single to bring in the winning run, as noted by WUSF. This win forces a Game 5 back at Tropicana Field on Wednesday night, where the Rays will attempt to become the first team to force a Game 6 after trailing 3-0 in the series.
Rays manager Kevin Cash emphasized the need for contributions from the entire team moving forward, saying they would need "all hands on deck," according to WUSF. The comeback prevented the Brewers from clinching their first World Series title at Tropicana Field, where thousands of Brewers fans had gathered, WFLA reported.
