Rep. Kevin Kiley, who left the Republican Party earlier this year due to his opposition to gerrymandering, lost his reelection bid in California's newly redrawn 6th Congressional District, The Hill reported.
According to Decision Desk HQ, Democrat Richard Pan, a physician and former state senator, defeated Kiley by nearly 15 percentage points in the district.
Kiley left the Republican Party over his opposition to gerrymandering.
The election results mark a shift in representation for California's 6th District, moving from a former Republican to a Democrat.
The district was newly redrawn prior to the election, as noted by The Hill.
