The Rucks on Main Ruck March before Veterans Day is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, beginning at 9 a.m. in downtown Temple, according to KDH News. The event involves participants hiking a six-mile route through parts of North Temple and downtown while carrying ruck sacks filled with up to 40 pounds of non-perishable food items.

Wes Albanese, a U.S. Army veteran, founded the Rucks on Main event seven years ago to honor military service members and first responders. The march is held twice yearly: once on Memorial Day weekend to honor fallen service members, and again the weekend before Veterans Day to thank troops and first responders for their service.

The route starts at the Santa Fe Depot at 315 W. Ave B, passes through the Temple Historical District, then heads north, east, south, and back west to the starting point. The food collected in the ruck sacks will be donated to Temple Christian Outreach, providing community support.

Participants pay a $45 registration fee and can sign up online at rucksonmain.org. Registration closes at 9 a.m. on the day of the event, Saturday, November 7.
