San Jose State extends losing streak in Reno to 12 games with a 28-13 Mountain West loss to Nevada.
San Jose State Spartans football team lost 28-13 to the Nevada Wolf Pack in a Mountain West Conference game played in Reno, continuing a 12-game losing streak at Mackay Stadium that dates back 24 years, mercurynews.com reported.
The Spartans struggled offensively, finishing with very low total yards and converting only one of 14 third downs. The team ended the first half with six consecutive three-and-outs and six punts, leading to a quarterback change late in the half.
Starting quarterback Daniel Rolovich was replaced by Robert McDaniel, and later Luke Weaver entered the game in the fourth quarter. Weaver led the team to 10 points in the final two drives and finished with 91 passing yards, while Rolovich and McDaniel combined for 48 yards.
Nevada's third-string quarterback Luke Duncan, making his third career start due to injuries to other quarterbacks, led a key 84-yard touchdown drive late in the third quarter. The Wolf Pack improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
San Jose State's only touchdown came on an 11-yard run by Viliami Teu with just over seven minutes left in the game. Trajan Sinatra contributed two field goals, one before halftime and another late in the fourth quarter.
Spartans head coach Ken Niumatalolo said the team needs to review all aspects of their play and practice to address the ongoing struggles, stating that "everything is on the table."
