Secretary of State Marco Rubio, based in Washington, is set to make his first international trip since the recent midterm elections, which resulted in significant losses for Republicans, WTOP reported.

Rubio will attend a Group of 7 foreign ministers meeting in France, where he will engage with counterparts from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, all U.S. allies, according to the Associated Press.

The State Department stated that Rubio will use the meeting to advance American interests and address global issues such as the Iran and Russia-Ukraine conflicts, as well as energy and food security concerns, WTOP noted.

This G7 meeting follows a larger G20 gathering hosted by Rubio in Atlanta, which ended without consensus on major global issues, and the French hosts have indicated that this meeting will also likely not produce a joint communique, the AP reported.

The French have invited Brazil, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine to participate in some discussions, focusing on priorities including Ukraine, Iran, and freedom of navigation in strategic waterways like the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, according to the AP.
