Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts has requested the Justice Department to initiate a criminal investigation into Bank of America for alleged breaches of anti-money laundering laws, according to The Hill.

Warren addressed a letter to Attorney General Todd Blanche expressing her concerns about the bank's compliance and criticized the recent penalty imposed by the Treasury Department.

The Treasury Department fined Bank of America $1.21 billion, which Warren described as merely a "slap on the wrist," implying that she believes stronger action is warranted.

This development highlights ongoing scrutiny of major financial institutions and their adherence to regulatory standards.

The Justice Department has yet to respond publicly to Warren's request, and further investigations or actions may follow depending on their review.
