State of emergency expanded to Seminole, Lake, and Volusia counties for flooding
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis expanded the flooding state of emergency to include more Central Florida counties.
Florida has expanded its state of emergency declaration due to historic flooding, now including Seminole, Lake, and Volusia counties, according to WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando.
The flooding threat is linked to rising waters in the St. Johns River, which flows northward through these counties before reaching the Atlantic Ocean near Jacksonville.
This expansion also covers other counties such as Glades, Hendry, Okeechobee, and Palm Beach in South Florida, as reported by WKMG.
The executive order activates state response and recovery plans, allowing agencies to coordinate resources and deploy the Florida National Guard and Florida State Guard.
The flooding followed a 1-in-1,000-year rainfall event in Brevard County, where more than two feet of rain fell, with waters draining into the St. Johns River, WKMG noted.
