Steve Dolan, a longtime resident of Alpine, has spent 50 years covering Major League Baseball games, primarily focusing on the San Diego Padres, according to the Times of San Diego. Over his extensive career, Dolan estimates he has watched more than 3,000 games in person from the press box.

Dolan began his baseball coverage in 1973 with the Back Country Trader, a weekly community newspaper in Lakeside. He has worked for various newspapers and wire services, including the Daily Californian, Desert Sun, United Press International, Los Angeles Times’ San Diego County Edition, Associated Press, and SportsTicker.

Known among his peers as the “Dean of the Padres Press Box,” Dolan holds the record for the longest active tenure covering the Padres in the news media. He also played baseball in high school at El Capitan High School in Lakeside, graduating in 1973.

Currently, Dolan favors the Milwaukee Brewers in the ongoing World Series, reflecting his deep engagement with baseball beyond just the local team.

His decades of experience and passion for baseball have made him a respected figure in San Diego’s sports journalism community.
