Streaming platforms label AI music, affecting listener perceptions

New labels on AI-generated music tracks influence how listeners judge songs, even if human-made, research shows.

Two major streaming platforms have begun labeling music tracks generated by artificial intelligence, according to Inc.

Psychological research highlighted by Inc. reveals that when listeners see an “AI” tag on a music track, they tend to judge it more harshly compared to tracks without such a label.

Interestingly, this negative bias occurs even when the track is entirely created by humans, suggesting the label itself influences listener perception.

The new labeling practice aims to inform listeners about the origin of music but may also unintentionally affect their experience and evaluation of the tracks.
