Netflix hires former Apple exec Steve Wilson to lead podcast acquisitions
Steve Wilson, ex-Apple Podcasts executive, joins Netflix to head podcast content acquisitions amid company layoffs.
Netflix has appointed Steve Wilson, a former Apple Podcasts executive, to lead its podcast content acquisitions, Deadline reported. Wilson will serve as a consultant to guide Netflix's expanding podcast strategy, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Wilson spent 15 years at Apple, where he worked in editorial, partner relations, and marketing for Apple Podcasts. After leaving Apple, he held leadership roles at podcast studios QCODE and Daylight Media before joining Netflix, Variety noted.
Netflix began its significant push into podcasts in late 2025, partnering with Spotify to offer video podcasts and expanding its catalog with licensed content from iHeartMedia and Barstool, as well as original shows like The Pete Davidson Show, Variety added.
The hiring of Wilson comes shortly after Netflix announced layoffs affecting about 6% of its workforce, the largest since 2022. The company cited a need to prioritize resources and adjust its content strategy, as reported by Variety and the Hollywood Reporter.
Netflix's long-term podcast strategy remains to be seen, but the move to bring Wilson on board signals a serious commitment to growing its podcast offerings and competing with platforms like YouTube, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
