Disney renews supernatural teen series Coven Academy for season 2
Coven Academy, a supernatural drama about teenage witches at a magic school, will return for a second season on Disney platforms.
Disney has renewed the supernatural young adult series Coven Academy for a second season, Variety reported. The show, created by Tim Federle, centers on three teenage witches and their warlock peers at an elite magic boarding school where power and secrets play crucial roles.
The series stars Malina Pauli Weissman, Malachi Barton, Jordan Leftwich, Ora Duplass, Louis Thresher, Tiffani Thiessen, and Devon Sawa, according to Hollywood Reporter. Federle continues as executive producer for the upcoming season.
Season 1 debuted on October 1 with nine short chapters on Freeform, followed by the full 21-chapter season on Disney+ and Hulu. The show was initially planned for Disney Channel but shifted to Freeform and streaming to align with more mature content, Variety noted.
The first season attracted strong viewership, with 20.3 million hours watched globally on Disney+ and Hulu within three weeks, and the first chapter garnered over 30 million views on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Nielsen data showed it was the most-watched streaming series among teens aged 12-17 during its premiere weekend.
The storyline involves the coven navigating ancient supernatural wars and forbidden romances as they protect their city and themselves, per the series' official logline shared by Hollywood Reporter and Variety. The second season will continue this narrative.
