NC State University announced the firing of head football coach Dave Doeren following a 31-28 loss to Stanford, ending his 14-year tenure as the program's winningest coach, according to ABC11 WTVD and CBS17 WNCN.
Athletic Director Boo Corrigan expressed gratitude for Doeren's service, noting he represented the university with pride, CBS17 reported.
Todd Goebbel, who has been on the staff since 2019 and served as running backs coach and special teams coordinator, was named interim head coach. He had also spent the past eight seasons working under Doeren, ABC11 WTVD said.
Goebbel emphasized focusing forward, aiming to field a team that would make Doeren proud by being hard, tough, and united. He credited the players for their support and commitment during the transition.
