Neil Young sues Trump again over use of 'Rockin' in the Free World' at rallies
Neil Young has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Donald Trump's political action committee for unauthorized use of his song at election events.
Neil Young has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Donald Trump's political action committee, Trump 47 Committee Inc., alleging copyright infringement for the use of his song 'Rockin' in the Free World' as walkup music at Trump's midterm election rallies, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
This is the second time Young has sued Trump over the use of this song. The first lawsuit was filed in 2020 and was settled, with Trump's team agreeing not to use the song again without Young's permission, Variety and Hollywood Reporter noted.
Young's complaint describes the 1989 song as a protest anthem contrasting political rhetoric with the harsh realities faced by marginalized people, calling it 'the opposite of everything that Donald J. Trump stands for,' as reported by both outlets.
Young is seeking $10 million in damages for the alleged unauthorized use of the song. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The lawsuit was filed in federal court on Monday, marking a continuation of Young's efforts to protect his music from unauthorized political use, as detailed by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
