Terence Clegg Sr. leads Prince George’s District 2 school board race
Terence Clegg Sr. holds a strong lead in the race to fill the vacant District 2 school board seat in Prince George’s County.
Terence Clegg Sr. is leading the race for the vacant Prince George’s County District 2 school board seat, according to The Baltimore Banner. As of the latest unofficial results, Clegg received 58.8% of the vote, totaling 9,716 votes, while his opponent Caroline Decaire-Goldin received 40.5%, or 6,681 votes. All Election Day precincts had reported, but provisional ballots were still being counted.
The seat has been vacant since June after the resignation of former board member Jonathan Briggs. The vacancy has left District 2 without representation during ongoing school transportation issues and upcoming budget decisions. County Executive Aisha Braveboy did not appoint an interim replacement.
District 2 covers areas including College Park, Greenbelt, Berwyn Heights, Riverdale Park, New Carrollton, and parts of Lanham and Hyattsville. Clegg, a state government administrator and father of three students in the district, campaigned on improving school transportation, enhancing special education services, and protecting classroom resources amid budget cuts.
Clegg expressed cautious optimism about his lead and said he preferred to wait for all results before declaring victory. His opponent Decaire-Goldin has not conceded, stating she is monitoring mail-in ballots and appreciating the support her campaign received.
The winner will fill the seat left vacant since June, with election officials expected to certify results in the coming days.
