Thousands of people demonstrated in Orleans, France, against the far-right National Rally party's congress, according to Anadolu Agency. Authorities counted 11,000 protesters by noon, while organizers estimated 26,000 participants. The protest was part of a broader opposition to the party's political record and coincided with Marine Le Pen officially launching her presidential campaign at the congress, France 24 reported.

The march proceeded peacefully through the city center on a planned route, with demonstrators chanting slogans against both Marine Le Pen and President Emmanuel Macron. The protest included calls such as “Macron resign” and “Le Pen in prison,” referencing Le Pen's legal issues, Anadolu Agency noted.

In response to concerns about public order during the event, the mayor of Orleans imposed a two-night curfew for children under 15, effective from 9 pm to 6 am on Saturday and Sunday. This measure aimed to reduce the risk of unrest and ensure safety during the gatherings, according to Anadolu Agency.

Police seized several items during an operation at the Orleans toll plaza on Friday night, including petanque balls, a replica rifle, a hockey stick, and a knife, Anadolu Agency reported.

The protests occurred amid a backdrop of renewed nationwide demonstrations over the cost of living, some of which had recently involved street violence. The National Rally's congress serves as a significant campaign event for Marine Le Pen ahead of France's presidential election in six months, France 24 added.
