UCLA football has been placed at No. 8 in the latest College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, according to Yahoo Sports. Despite an undefeated 8-0 record, the Bruins face pressure to maintain their performance as their schedule has been considered weaker than expected.

The CFP selection committee appears cautious about UCLA's playoff chances, with reports indicating that a single loss might still allow them to sneak into the playoff, but two losses would almost certainly eliminate them. This contrasts with teams like Texas and Alabama, who have two losses yet remain ranked ahead of UCLA.

UCLA's defense has been strong this season, but it has not been tested against top-tier offenses, which factors into the committee's reservations. Additionally, the Bruins might enter the playoff with a backup quarterback and only one win against a ranked opponent if they qualify.

The Bruins are set to face BYU in the first round at the Rose Bowl, with a potential quarterfinal matchup against the Miami Hurricanes. Miami holds the No. 1 spot in the rankings, while UCLA is behind several teams including Alabama, Kentucky, and Texas.

UCLA's remaining schedule includes games against Minnesota, Michigan, and USC. Success in these matchups could improve their ranking and playoff prospects. The current situation underscores the challenge for UCLA as they aim to secure a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.

Meanwhile, the rankings also highlight the stakes for other teams, such as Notre Dame and Miami, who are positioned at No. 11 and No. 1 respectively, with important upcoming games influencing their playoff chances.
