Two sisters encountered a 6-year-old girl walking alone along Interstate 64 in Henrico on Wednesday and stopped to help her, NBC12 reported.

Henrico Police said they received the first call about the girl at 12:34 p.m. from motorists, while Colonial Trail Elementary School reported the girl missing around noon, creating a timeline discrepancy.

The school principal sent a statement to families about the missing child, but police declined to share specific details on the timeline due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.

The sisters, Amber and Hannah Gray, said they were shocked and immediately acted to ensure the girl's safety after spotting her near the highway. Another man was already with the child and had called 911.

The sisters crossed the median to reach the girl, who was unable to provide much information about herself when asked.
