7-year-old boy killed, father severely injured in South Los Angeles hit-and-run
A hit-and-run driver struck a child and his father in South Los Angeles, killing the boy and severely injuring the father.
A 7-year-old boy was killed and his father was severely injured after being struck by vehicles in South Los Angeles Wednesday night, KTLA reported.
The collision happened around 10 p.m. on November 4 on Figueroa Street just south of 77th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Investigators said the child ran into the roadway and was first hit by a vehicle whose driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
A second vehicle, described as a dark-colored, four-door sedan, then struck the child and fled without stopping to provide aid or identify the driver, LAPD said.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the father and son to a nearby hospital. The boy later died from his injuries, and the father sustained severe injuries. Their identities have not been released.
Police are seeking the public's help to identify the hit-and-run driver. A reward of up to $50,000 is offered under the city’s Hit-and-Run Reward Program for information leading to the driver’s identification, apprehension, and conviction.
Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD South Traffic Division Detective Nily at 323-421-2577 or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or via L.A. Crime Stoppers online.
