Alabama voters have approved a constitutional amendment that requires the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools and permits student-initiated and student-led prayer, according to The Hill.

The amendment, known as Alabama Statewide Amendment 3, was projected to pass by Decision Desk HQ, reflecting voter support for the measure in the Cotton State.

This change to the Alabama Constitution mandates the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and explicitly allows prayer led by students during school activities.

The amendment's approval marks a notable shift in Alabama's education policies regarding religious expression and patriotic exercises in public schools.
