Alameda girl creates AI-powered talking skeleton for Halloween
A 9-year-old in Alameda used AI to make a Halloween skeleton that talks and tells jokes.
A 9-year-old girl in Alameda has created a talking skeleton Halloween display named Uncle Murray using artificial intelligence, CBS News Bay Area reported.
The girl, Nathalie Chabas, found a plastic skeleton at a store that could say three recorded sentences and decided to enhance it. She took measurements and explored the wiring to see if it could be connected to AI.
Her father initially thought it was impossible, but after consulting AI, they confirmed the idea was feasible. Nathalie then hooked the skeleton up to an AI system, allowing it to talk and tell jokes to visitors.
Uncle Murray tells jokes and has developed a personality, including a backstory about falling down stairs. Nathalie programmed some information, but much of the skeleton's responses are generated by the AI itself.
The display has impressed visitors, including an older woman who was amazed by the skeleton's ability to understand and respond accurately to questions, showing how AI can bridge generational gaps.
