Alexandria police discovered the body of 44-year-old Joshua Cochran inside a closet in an apartment after a missing persons search, according to FOX 5 DC.

Cochran had severe blunt-force injuries to his head, and his family had reported him missing after he stopped answering his phone.

Surveillance video showed Cochran drinking with 63-year-old John Strepleton III at local restaurants before they went to the apartment.

When detectives questioned Strepleton at the apartment, he immediately confessed to the killing, police said.

Strepleton, a registered sex offender with prior convictions, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Neighbors expressed shock at the arrest, as reported by FOX 5 DC.
