San Jose's oldest downtown plaza has been renamed Plaza de San Jose following months of community engagement, San José Spotlight reported.
The decision came after allegations of sexual abuse surfaced against César Chávez, the late civil rights leader for whom the plaza was previously named.
The San Jose City Council unanimously approved the new name for the 3.4-acre public space, reflecting a city-led renaming process.
This change marks a significant update to a prominent public area in downtown San Jose, aiming to respect community concerns and historical context.
