The Verge reported that code strings discovered in the HomeView 27.2 software suggest Apple might introduce security camera capabilities to its smart home hub.

A Reddit user named pdfu found references to a Secure Video feature that includes motion detection, live streaming, recording options, and privacy functions.

The setup page described in the code explicitly states, “Your HomeView can be used as a security camera with HomeKit Secure Video.”

Video feeds would be accessible only to home members, with indicators such as a light and sound alerting when the camera is being viewed or recording.

Users would receive notifications if Secure Video settings are changed, and customizable detection and recording options would adjust based on whether the user is home, away, or asleep.

Apple has not officially confirmed these features, but considering the company’s focus on privacy, it may be refining them before a potential release.
