Britt McHenry fired from State Department after drink thrown at Wizards game
Britt McHenry lost her State Department job after a viral video showed her throwing a drink at a fan during a Wizards game at Capital One Arena.
Britt McHenry, a former ESPN reporter and current U.S. State Department press adviser, was fired following an incident at the Washington Wizards' home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks on October 21 at Capital One Arena, according to reports from newsradio1290wtks.iheart.com and powertalk1460.iheart.com.
The incident began when spectators behind McHenry reportedly made inappropriate remarks directed at Bucks player Kyle Kuzma's fiancée, model Winnie Harlow, as reported by Yahoo Sports. The confrontation escalated, leading McHenry to throw a drink at a fan, an action captured on video that went viral.
McHenry joined the State Department in September and was reportedly in line for a promotion before the incident. TMZ reported she was forced to resign from her position on October 22.
As she left the arena, McHenry was booed by the crowd and responded by blowing kisses, according to Yahoo Entertainment. There is no indication she has been banned from attending future games at Capital One Arena.
The Wizards won the game 128-116.
