California’s general election is set for Tuesday, November 3, with residents of Los Angeles and the state deciding on several important races, the Los Angeles Times reported. Key contests include the race for California governor and the mayor of Los Angeles, alongside six local congressional district seats and other statewide offices.

Voters in Los Angeles have multiple items on the ballot, including city and county races, according to the Times. Ballots submitted by mail must be postmarked by election day and received by November 10 to be counted.

The Times outlined that eligible Californians who missed the registration deadline can still register conditionally through same-day voter registration at county offices, polling places, or vote centers. Early voting locations and secure ballot drop-off sites have been made available to facilitate voting.

To check voter registration status, Californians can visit the Secretary of State’s website and use identification numbers or Social Security digits. The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s website provides information on ballot drop boxes and polling places.

The governor’s race features Democratic Xavier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton, who differ significantly on issues such as gas prices, electric vehicle mandates, and the state’s high-speed rail project. Gas prices in California average $6.01 per gallon, the highest in the nation, a factor influencing voter concerns.

Hilton has proposed lowering gas prices to $3 per gallon by repealing environmental regulations and increasing drilling permits, while Becerra has not detailed specific plans to reduce costs. Both candidates attribute high prices to opposing political parties’ policies, the Times noted.
