California voters will select members of the State Board of Equalization in the upcoming election, CBS News Los Angeles reported. This board oversees the state's property tax system and other taxes and is unique as the nation's only elected tax commission.

The Board consists of the California State Controller and four members representing specific geographical districts. Los Angeles County alone constitutes District 3, making its election particularly relevant to local voters.

In District 3, two Democrats are competing: Assemblymember Mike Gipson, who represents Carson, Compton, and parts of Long Beach and Los Angeles, and Sam Sukaton, a union organizer with experience directing a presidential campaign in Inland Southern California.

Other districts cover different regions of California, but the District 3 race directly affects Los Angeles County residents, who will choose their representative on this tax oversight panel.
