Carlsbad to add 45 emergency shelter beds with local partnerships
Carlsbad teams with Lucky Duck Foundation and Catholic Charities to expand shelter capacity amid changing needs.
The city of Carlsbad is collaborating with the Lucky Duck Foundation and Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego to increase emergency shelter capacity by adding 45 beds, FOX 5 San Diego reported.
The additional beds will be part of a facility that was previously used to house farmworkers. However, as the demand for farmworker housing has decreased over time, officials decided to repurpose the space to serve a broader population in need of emergency shelter.
This initiative reflects a shift in local shelter needs and a coordinated effort among city and nonprofit partners to address homelessness and housing insecurity in the Carlsbad area.
Officials have not specified an exact timeline for the opening of the new beds but are moving forward with plans to expand services at the facility.
