A 20-meter-tall ginkgo tree in Geelong's botanic gardens is recognized for its cultural and natural importance.
The National Trust of Victoria has named a ginkgo tree in Geelong as the Victorian tree of the year, highlighting its status as a beloved local landmark, The Guardian reported.
This ginkgo biloba, raised from seed over 160 years ago in Geelong’s botanic gardens, stands 20 meters tall, making it the largest of its kind in the state and possibly in Australia, according to The Guardian.
The tree is well known as a popular wedding spot, serving as the backdrop for numerous local love stories and wedding photos, The Guardian noted.
The award from the National Trust also serves as a call to protect green spaces, emphasizing the importance of preserving such iconic trees and their surroundings for future generations, The Guardian added.
