The Charleston County School District Board of Trustees awarded Superintendent Anita Huggins an exemplary rating in her annual performance evaluation for the second consecutive year, WCBD reported. The board gave Huggins a score of 31.5 out of 33 possible points during a special meeting on October 19.

According to WCSC, the evaluation reflected significant academic gains, strengthened district operations, and measurable progress toward strategic priorities. The district noted improvements in instructional delivery, literacy, mathematics achievement, graduation rates, college and career readiness, teacher retention, and fiscal management.

WCSC highlighted that results from the district’s 2026 SC READY assessments showed proficiency increases of 18.6 percentage points in English language arts and 12.9 points in mathematics since 2021. Graduation rates rose to nearly 92%.

The district also released 2026 school report cards showing 57 schools earned Good or Excellent ratings, with 43 rated Excellent—an increase of 34 schools from the previous year. Ninety-two percent of schools earned an Average or higher rating, up from 84% last year, ABC News 4 WCIV reported.

Huggins received a nearly perfect evaluation score, improving from 30.89 points the previous year. She expressed commitment to continuing to accelerate student outcomes and provide opportunities for all students in Charleston County, according to WCSC.
