The MSC Poesia cruise ship is currently detained at the Port of Miami with passengers on board, according to Coast Guard officials who told CBS News the ship's itinerary is on hold while an inspection is conducted.

The Coast Guard's Miami sector began detaining the ship on Sunday to verify its compliance with international standards and U.S. regulations, focusing on the safety of passengers, crew, the vessel, and the environment, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

MSC Cruises confirmed the ship's departure has been delayed due to the ongoing Coast Guard inspection and said they are fully cooperating with authorities. The company also stated they are keeping guests informed and appreciate their patience during the process.

The MSC Poesia has a capacity of over 3,200 passengers and more than 1,000 crew members, though the exact number of people currently on board was not disclosed, CBS News reported.
