Detroit residents raise concerns over proposed concrete crushing facility
Detroit residents worry about dust, noise, and truck traffic from a proposed concrete recycling operation on the city's west side.
Detroit residents have expressed concerns about a proposed concrete recycling facility at Auburn and Glendale streets on the city's west side, according to WXYZ.
The Sterling Heights-based company DVM Utilities is seeking approval for the operation, which is located in an M-4 intensive industrial zone. The Detroit Buildings, Safety Engineering and Environmental Department (BSEED) plans to hold a virtual special land use hearing on the proposal.
Residents cited negative experiences with an existing concrete crushing operation on Greenfield Road, which has caused dust problems affecting homes and vehicles, as reported by WXYZ.
Concerns also include potential noise and increased truck traffic, with residents worried about the impact on air quality and neighborhood safety, especially for children playing nearby.
BSEED noted that DVM Utilities previously applied for a five-month operation, highlighting ongoing regulatory considerations for the facility.
