Stevie Nicks reveals inspiration behind 'Landslide' during Lindsey Buckingham romance
Stevie Nicks shared details on writing 'Landslide' amid her relationship with Lindsey Buckingham at a recent gala.
Stevie Nicks discussed the origins of her iconic song "Landslide" during the City of Hope 2026 Music, Film and Entertainment Industry Spirit of Life Gala, according to wjla.com, kfdm.com, and wwmt.com. She revealed she wrote the song in Aspen, Colorado, while contemplating the future of her relationship with Lindsey Buckingham.
Nicks described being alone in a mountain house, looking out over snow-covered hills, when inspiration struck. She mentioned bringing her Goya guitar, which she could barely play but liked the look of, and decided to write a "fantastic song" inspired by the view.
The romance between Nicks and Buckingham began in 1972, just before they both joined Fleetwood Mac. They released an album titled "Buckingham Nicks" in 1973, which was not commercially successful, leading to their being dropped by their label. They later joined Fleetwood Mac along with Christine and Jon McVie and Mick Fleetwood.
"Landslide" was featured on Fleetwood Mac's 1975 self-titled album, released while Nicks and Buckingham were still a couple. Buckingham also teased an upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary expected in 2027, as reported by the same outlets.
Nicks humorously noted that despite the song being written long ago, "930,000 years later, we still continued," referencing the longevity of their relationship at the time.
Additionally, Nicks has recently engaged with fans by adding her own video to the "Dreams" TikTok challenge, showing ongoing interaction with her audience.
