Lionsgate is partnering with Meta to convert the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping into 3D format. Deadline reported that this conversion will allow the film to be experienced on Meta's VR glasses following its run in cinemas.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the 3D conversion was done by the Oscar-winning visual effects studio DNEG ahead of the film's theatrical release on November 20. Meta collaborated on the conversion to ensure the movie can be played on its lightweight VR glasses, which are expected to be available to consumers in spring 2027.

Variety added that this marks Meta's first collaboration with a studio on such a 3D conversion. The new Meta VR glasses, priced at $1,299, will offer audiences an immersive way to watch the film after its theatrical debut.

Director Francis Lawrence expressed that the 3D adaptation was intended to create a visceral and immersive experience, drawing viewers into the perspective of the character Haymitch Abernathy. The film is a direct sequel to the 2023 prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and continues the franchise's story.

Lionsgate's chief revenue officer, Jim Packer, highlighted the collaboration as an example of how technology can transform traditional viewing formats to create new experiences for audiences. The partnership aims to expand how fans engage with the Hunger Games franchise beyond the big screen.
