Law enforcement in Dorchester County assisted the Ridgeville Police Department in searching for an armed and dangerous suspect in Ridgeville, South Carolina, according to WCIV.

The incident occurred in the area between Gum Street and Poplar Street, prompting officials to urge residents nearby to shelter in place, secure doors and windows, and avoid the area while the search was active, WCBD reported.

Authorities later announced that all personnel had cleared the scene and the shelter-in-place order was lifted, with no further threat to the community, Live 5 WCSC reported.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office said the situation was active during the search and that additional information would be released when appropriate, as noted by WCIV.

Residents in the Ridgeville area were advised to remain indoors until law enforcement confirmed the suspect was no longer a threat, according to the updates from local news outlets.
