Former Ellen executive producer Matthew Wright dies at 52
Matthew Wright, who worked on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for 16 years, died in an unfathomable tragedy, DeGeneres shared a tearful tribute.
Matthew Wright, an executive producer on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, died at age 52 in what a GoFundMe campaign described as an "unfathomable tragedy," according to Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline.
Wright passed away while working remotely in Los Angeles, while his family was in New York, the GoFundMe campaign stated. Both Wright and his husband had been laid off earlier that summer, and the family is seeking help with funeral and memorial costs.
Ellen DeGeneres posted a tearful video tribute on Instagram, calling Wright "the glue to our entire family" and recalling his humor, kindness, and the joy he brought to the show from 2006 until its finale in 2022.
The campaign and tributes emphasize Wright's impact on those around him, with DeGeneres noting his close friendship with former Ellen DJ Stephen “tWitch” Boss, who died in 2022, suggesting they are reunited in the afterlife.
The GoFundMe asks for donations to assist the family with unexpected expenses and encourages those touched by Wright's kindness to contribute and share the campaign.
