Elsinore leads British Independent Film Awards with 12 nominations

The British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) nominations for 2026 were announced, with the film Elsinore receiving the most nods at 12, Deadline reported. The awards ceremony is scheduled for December 6 at the Roundhouse in Camden.

Elsinore, a biographical drama starring Andrew Scott as Ian Charleson, earned nominations including best British independent film, director for Simon Stone, lead performance for Scott, and supporting actor for Billie Piper, according to Variety.

Following Elsinore, Clio Barnard's I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning received eight nominations, and Ashley Walters' directorial debut Animol was nominated seven times, Variety noted.

Other films with multiple nominations include Effi O Blaenau and Queen at Sea, each with six nods including best British independent film, as reported by Hollywood Reporter.

The nominations also highlighted a diverse range of filmmakers and actors, with notable names such as Juliette Binoche, Erin Doherty, and Bella Ramsey recognized in performance categories, Hollywood Reporter added.

The BIFA nominations were announced by previous winners Jay Lycurgo and Posy Sterling at One Hundred Shoreditch in London, Hollywood Reporter said.
