Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) tracks approved and pending Section 1115 Medicaid waivers by state, which allow states to test new Medicaid approaches differing from federal requirements.

These waivers can include changes to eligibility, benefits, social determinants of health, and delivery system reforms, according to KFF.

Section 1115 waivers must be viewed by the Health and Human Services Secretary as likely to promote Medicaid program objectives.

KFF provides policy research, public opinion surveys, and health news to inform national health debates, including detailed tracking of Medicaid waiver provisions.

The tracker includes waivers related to work requirements, social determinants of health, pre-release coverage for incarcerated individuals, and continuous eligibility for children.

KFF’s independent research aims to amplify the public’s voice and provide facts on health policy issues and public programs.
