Four Corners region remains on flood watch after heavy rain and flooding
The Four Corners area faces ongoing flood threats following days of heavy rain causing evacuations and damage.
The Four Corners region, where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah meet, continues to be under a flood watch due to persistent heavy rain and strong winds, NPR reported.
According to CBS News, the National Weather Service issued the flood watch after days of rain caused rivers to surge, flooding homes and prompting water rescues. The rain has been unusually heavy since Wednesday, leading to repeated storms that threaten to flood roads, streams, canyons, and areas affected by previous fires.
The Colorado Department of Transportation noted a significant increase in water flow levels in the San Juan River, resulting in the closure of the San Juan River Bridge. Videos shared with CBS News showed severe flooding in Pagosa Springs, with some homes inundated up to the roofline.
San Juan County officials reported that floodwaters were receding but left behind mud and silt contaminated with sewage due to waste plant failures. Power outages remain across multiple areas, and it may take several days for power to be restored. Despite the damage and evacuations, no loss of life has been reported so far.
The heavy rain is expected to expand across the central and northern Plains and move toward the Upper Midwest in the coming days, extending the flood threat beyond the Four Corners area.
