NBC News reported that President Donald Trump employed Islamophobic rhetoric at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on October 25, 2026. He was supporting Republican candidates in the state, including Senate nominee Mike Rogers.

Trump accused Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who is in a close race with Rogers, of being a 'jihadist' and a 'Muslim Brotherhood member.' He contrasted El-Sayed with Rogers by calling Rogers 'apple pie.'

Trump further claimed that El-Sayed's record of support for jihadists would disqualify him from flying on an airplane and argued that he should not be allowed a seat in the U.S. Senate. He also said El-Sayed would have to go through a metal detector before entering the Senate chamber.

The comments came as part of a broader rally effort by Trump to back Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections in Michigan, a key battleground state, NBC News noted.
