Georgia voters are actively participating in the 2026 midterm elections, with ballot counting underway across the state for multiple important races, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. The elections include contests for governor, U.S. House seats, and various statewide executive offices.

In the gubernatorial race, Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms and Republican Rick Jackson are competing to lead Georgia. Bottoms, a former Atlanta mayor, aims to become the state's first Black and first female governor. Jackson, a healthcare staffing executive, seeks to continue the Republican governance established under the current administration. Their platforms differ on issues such as minimum wage, Medicaid expansion, workforce development, and data center regulations, FOX 5 Atlanta detailed.

Georgia's 14 congressional districts are also in play, with several incumbents defending their seats and new candidates vying for open positions. Notable contests include District 1 between Republican Jim Kingston and Democrat Amanda Hollowell, and District 13 where state Rep. Jasmine Clark is favored following the vacancy left by Rep. David Scott's passing, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

Other statewide offices on the ballot include lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, agriculture secretary, insurance secretary, school superintendent, and commissioner of labor. Election workers in counties such as Cobb are counting ballots to determine local leadership outcomes, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

The results of these elections will influence Georgia's policy direction on economic, public health, and regulatory matters for the coming years. Voters and observers are closely following the returns as polls closed at 7 p.m., with updates continuously provided by FOX 5 Atlanta.

The outcome of these races will also affect the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives, as control depends on the results in Georgia's districts, FOX 5 Atlanta noted.
