A man faces murder charges after a woman was found dead in a Midtown Atlanta hotel room in October.
Atlanta police arrested a man on murder charges following the discovery of a woman’s body inside a luxury hotel room in Midtown Atlanta in mid-October, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Officers responded to the Loews Atlanta Hotel at 1065 Peachtree St NE on October 14, where hotel staff directed them to room 2519. Inside, they found an adult woman deceased.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide on October 15, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. After an eight-day investigation, detectives identified Emanuel Poindexter as the suspect involved and obtained arrest warrants on October 22. Before his arrest, Poindexter was receiving medical treatment in Gwinnett County for a self-inflicted knife wound.
Once medically cleared, Poindexter was taken into custody by the Atlanta Police Department Fugitive Unit and booked into Fulton County Jail on charges of murder and aggravated battery, FOX 5 Atlanta said. Authorities have not released details about the victim’s relationship with Poindexter or the specific cause of death, but police confirmed the case will be closed with the arrest.
Atlanta News First identified the victim as 45-year-old Melissa Tibbetts and the suspect as 40-year-old Emanuel Poindexter. The outlet also confirmed the timeline of events and arrest details, noting that the investigation concluded with Poindexter’s arrest after his medical clearance.
