Great America theme park in Santa Clara will close after the 2027 season, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation confirmed, with the final day of operation set for Labor Day, September 6, 2027, CBS News Bay Area reported.

The park has been a fixture in the community since it opened in 1976 as part of the nation's Bicentennial celebration, welcoming tens of millions of visitors over five decades.

Six Flags announced in 2022 that they would not extend the park's land lease, which expires in June 2028, leading to the decision to close after the 2027 season.

The park's manager described the upcoming Farewell Season as a chance for Bay Area guests to revisit the attractions and traditions that have made Great America a meaningful part of the community.

The 2027 season is planned to start in March, although the exact opening date has not yet been announced.
