Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced he will step down from his position effective November 16, according to FOX45 Baltimore. Ball, a Democrat and the first Black executive of Howard County, has served since 2018 and is term-limited from continuing in the role.

Ball will become the interim president of Baltimore City Community College (BCCC), the city's only two-year college located in northwest Baltimore, The Baltimore Banner reported. The appointment follows the planned departure of BCCC President Debra McCurdy at the end of the year.

Ball previously worked at BCCC, where he managed the Complete College Baltimore program aimed at removing barriers for students earning associate degrees. He holds a doctorate in education from Morgan State University and degrees from Towson University and the University of Baltimore.

During his tenure as Howard County Executive, Ball navigated challenges including devastating floods in Ellicott City, the coronavirus pandemic, a federal government shutdown, layoffs, and funding gaps in county public schools, The Baltimore Banner noted.

Roger Ward, vice chair of BCCC’s board, praised Ball's leadership and connection to the Baltimore community in a statement shared with the college community. Ball expressed his commitment to supporting students at BCCC, emphasizing his dedication to education and community service.
