Instagram launches Edits desktop app with AI video editing on Mac
Instagram's Edits app arrives on macOS with AI agent support and advanced editing features for creators.
Instagram has launched Edits, its standalone video editing app, on macOS, allowing users to connect AI agents to assist with video editing, The Verge reported.
The desktop version includes a full multi-track timeline, keyboard shortcuts, keyframes for transitions, audio waveforms, and support for importing custom fonts, according to TechCrunch.
Creators can switch between manual editing and AI-assisted editing, with Instagram's product head describing how AI agents can make rough cuts and help assemble videos.
Edits on desktop also syncs audio and text styles saved on the mobile app, supports licensed music and effects, and enables direct publishing to Instagram with native features like tagging and location.
The move brings Edits into more direct competition with ByteDance's CapCut, a popular video editing app already available on desktop platforms.
Instagram developed the desktop app partly in response to creator demand for more advanced editing tools beyond mobile, as projects grow in complexity and size.
