Apple releases new MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreen and upgraded chip
Apple's latest MacBook Pro features an OLED touchscreen and a lighter design, while the entry-level model gets a processor upgrade.
Apple has introduced a new high-end MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen display, a lighter and thinner body, and enhanced performance, according to The Verge. The touchscreen functions well but is not expected to significantly change the laptop user experience, as noted in a review of the device.
The new MacBook Pro model, referred to as the PROLED Pro, features a PROLED XDR Display and a slimmer design, along with the addition of a Dynamic Island interface element. Despite the touchscreen capability, users may find themselves primarily using other input methods like the trackpad or mouse.
In addition to the high-end model, Apple is releasing an updated entry-level MacBook Pro known as the M6 MacBook Pro. This model retains the chassis design used since 2021 but includes a processor upgrade from a 10-core M5 chip to a 12-core M6 chip, as reported by The Verge.
The M6 MacBook Pro maintains many of the strengths of its predecessor, including solid keyboard and webcam quality, best-in-class trackpad, and improvements in processor, screen, speakers, ports, power, and battery life compared to the MacBook Air. However, its starting price has increased to $1,999 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
While the new PROLED model is expected to influence future MacBook Pro designs, the M6 MacBook Pro represents a more incremental upgrade aimed at users seeking a reliable, entry-level option with enhanced processing power.
