Karl Bryan, a retired Navy officer and Gulf War veteran living in Chesterfield County, has been officially installed as Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Richmond, WRIC reported. The role involves helping Jamaicans in the U.S. with passport, citizenship, and other issues, while promoting cultural exchange between Jamaica and Virginia.

Bryan’s Navy career spanned over 20 years and included service in Operation Desert Storm, medical aid missions in Honduras, and training the Indian Navy. His experience and leadership skills have been key in his new role as a cultural bridge between the two regions.

The installation ceremony took place in August at Carena’s Jamaican Grille in Richmond, attended by embassy leaders, family, and friends. Bryan aims to increase awareness of Jamaica’s culture in Virginia and vice versa, emphasizing shared connections.

He has also developed online tools to help Virginians and Jamaicans navigate relevant questions, utilizing resources he gathered during his Navy career. Bryan said his service continues as he embraces this diplomatic role.
